Аннотация: In the middle decades of the twentieth century phenomenology grew from a local philosophy in a few German towns into a movement that spanned Europe. In Converts to the Real, Edward Baring uncovers an unexpected force behind this prodigious growth: Catholicism. Participating in a tightly-knit transnational community, Catholics helped shuttle ideas between national traditions that were otherwise inward-looking and parochial. In the first half of the twentieth century, they wrote many of the first articles and books introducing phenomenological ideas to new contexts. They even organized the rescue of Edmund Husserl's manuscripts out of Nazi Germany in 1938. But the Catholic fascination with phenomenology was intermixed with a profound anxiety. Catholics worried that phenomenological ideas might prove dangerous to the faith, a possibility exemplified by the intellectual trajectory of Martin Heidegger, whose movement away from the Church was facilitated by his reading of Husserl. Converts to the Real uncovers a surprising genealogy for post-war European thought, with important implications for our understanding of the process of secularization and for the set of schools and ideas we now call "continental philosophy."--

Аннотация: This book presents a completely new retelling, in contemporary terms, of the romantic rationalist adventure of ideas that is Hegel's classic Phenomenology of Spirit. At its core is a nonpsychological conception of the conceptual, according to which the fact that there are laws of nature means that the objective world, no less than our thought about it, is already in conceptual shape. What Hegel takes to be the single biggest thing that ever happened in human history--the shift from traditional to distinctively modern ways of living, acting, and thinking--is explained as a fundamental change in the structure of normativity. Properly understanding that progressive structural transformation in turn points the way to a more perfect form of self-conscious life, and so to post-modernity as a dawning third age of what he calls "Spirit." What emerges is an account of what we most deeply are, in the form of a sweeping "history of the progress of the consciousness of freedom."--

Аннотация: This important new book offers an introduction to Heidegger's phenomenology of perception, interpreting and explaining five key words, 'Sein', 'Dasein', 'Ereignis', 'Lichtung', and 'Geschick'. David Kleinberg-Levin argues that, besides preparing the ground for a major critique of metaphysics and the Western world, Heidegger’s phenomenology of perception lays the groundwork for understanding perception--in particular, seeing and hearing, as capacities the historical character of which is capable of overcoming and significantly ameliorating the most menacing, most devastating features of the Western world that Heidegger subjected to critique. He proposes that the development of these capacities is not only a question of learning certain skills, but also a question of learning new character and that Heidegger's critique of the Western world suggests ways in which we might learn and develop new, more sensitive, poetic and mindful ways of relating to the perceived world

Modernism (Christian theology)
Phenomenology.
Аннотация: Regarding philosophical importance, Edmund Husserl is arguably "the" German export of the early twentieth century. In the wake of the linguistic turn(s) of the humanities, however, his claim to return to the "Sachen selbst" became metonymic for the neglect of language in Western philosophy. This view has been particularly influential in post-structural literary theory, which has never ceased to attack the supposed "logophobie" of phenomenology. "Phenomenology to the Letter. Husserl and Literature" challenges this verdict regarding the poetological and logical implications of Husserl's work through a thorough re-examination of his writing in the context of literary theory, classical rhetoric, and modern art. At issue is an approach to phenomenology and literature that does not merely coordinate the two discourses but explores their mutual implication. Contributions to the volume attend to the interplay between phenomenology and literature (both fiction and poetry), experience and language, as well as images and embodiment. The volume is the first of its kind to chart a phenomenological approach to literature and literary approach to phenomenology. As such it stands poised to make a novel contribution to literary studies and philosophy.

Аннотация: This second volume of David Kleinberg-Levin's study of Heidegger's phenomenology of perception sheds light on how Heidegger works, both critically and constructively, with seeing and hearing. The author explores how these capacities address the ills illuminated by Heidegger's critique of metaphysics and the nihilism devastating the Western world.

Аннотация: "This volume examines various points of contact between Marxism and phenomenology. Although these traditions can appear conceptually incompatible, the contributors reveal productive complementarities on themes such as alienation, reification, and ecology, which illuminate and can help to resolve the crises of contemporary capitalism"--
