Аннотация: This book provides information on agri-entrepreneurship from various authors' work in conflict areas (particularly Mindanao in the Philippines), transitional economies and poor countries. The book begins with a comparison of general entrepreneurs with agri-entrepreneurs. The next chapters discuss at some length how entrepreneurial skills training programmes require adjustments and modifications based on local knowledge, culture, the natural environment, and human-induced events due to unpredictable circumstances. In most examples presented, the experiences have been with a youth audience. Farmer innovation behaviour and technology transfer are also addressed, among others. The book has 12 chapters and a subject index

   Climatic changes.

   Crops and climate.

   Water-supply, Agricultural--Management.

   Developing countries.
Аннотация: This book provides experiences from studies on agricultural water management under climate change as references for agriculture and irrigation planners, decision makers, researchers and students. Chapters 2 and 3 provide an overview of global assessment of climate change impacts and water requirement for future agriculture. Chapters 4-7 provide analyses of crop water requirements in four case studies in developing countries. Chapters 8 and 9 are studies of irrigation management under sea-level rise in Vietnam's Mekong Delta. Chapters 10-12 discuss examples of adaptation alternatives such as water-saving techniques and groundwater exploitation, and related policy settings. The last chapter links the dominant approach of uncertainty presented in the climate change discourse with policy discussions on climate adaptation strategies.

Аннотация: "Using examples from Poland, Elżbieta Drążkiewicz explores the question of why states become donors and individuals decide to share their wealth with others through foreign aid. She comes to the conclusion that the concept of foreign aid requires the establishment of a specific moral economy which links national ideologies and local cultures of charitable giving with broader ideas about the global political economy. It is through these processes that the faith in foreign aid interventions as a solution to global issues is generated. The book also explores the relationship linking a state institution with its NGO partners, as well as international players such as the EU or OECD"--

Аннотация: "The first comprehensive study of neoliberalism's proselytizers in Eastern Europe and the Global South"--
"The first comprehensive study of neoliberalism's proselytizers in Eastern Europe and the Global South. Where does free market ideology come from? Recent work on the neoliberal intellectual movement around the Mont Pelerin Society has allowed for closer study of the relationship between ideas, interests, and institutions. Yet even as this literature brought neoliberalism down to earth, it tended to reproduce a perspective that saw the world from Europe and the U.S. outward. With the notable exception of Augusto Pinochet's Chile, long seen as a laboratory of neoliberalism, the new literature followed a story of diffusion as ideas migrated from the center to the periphery. The vast literature on neoliberalism remains dominated by histories of ideas beginning in the Global North and diffusing outward. Even in the most innovative work, the cast of characters remains surprisingly limited, clustering around famous intellectuals like Milton Friedman and Friedrich Hayek. Market Civilizations redresses this glaring absence by introducing a range of characters and voices active in the transnational neoliberal movement from the Global South and Eastern Europe. This includes B.R. Shenoy, an early Mont Pelerin Society from India, who has been canonized in some circles since the Singh reforms; Manuel Ayau, another MPS president and founder of the Marroquin University, an underappreciated Latin American node in the neoliberal network; Chinese intellectuals who adapted Hayek and Mises to local circumstances; and many others. Seeing neoliberalism from beyond the industrial core helps us understand what made radical capitalism attractive to diverse populations and how their often disruptive policy ideas "went local.""--

Аннотация: In 1857, Charles Baudelaire described the colonial condition as one in which "a nation begins with decadence and starts off where the others leave off." A century later, Frantz Fanon would argue that postcolonial artists were "beginning at the end," following the West's "path of negation and decadence" while skipping the inventive phase of youth. In Beginning at the End, Robert Stilling argues that for writers and artists such as Chinua Achebe, Agha Shahid Ali, Derek Walcott, Wole Soyinka, Yinka Shonibare, Bernardine Evaristo, and Derek Mahon, the notion of being caught between the decadence of Europe and the unformed possibilities of postcolonial cultures marks the founding condition for a postcolonial poetics. For these figures, the idea of decadence would haunt their attempts to carve out a place for the arts in postcolonial society, forcing them to negotiate between their own sense of the demands of art and the pressure to conform to a revolutionary politics. In reimagining the role of poetry and the visual arts in the formation of national cultures, these artists turned toward the oppositional politics and anti-realist aesthetics of writers such as Oscar Wilde to affirm a commitment to artifice and the imagination while fending off the charge of decadence associated with modernism and the idea of art for art's sake. Taking a transnational approach, Beginning at the End expands the study of literary decadence beyond fin-de-siècle Europe, and demonstrates the continuing importance to postcolonial thought of figures such as Oscar Wilde, Henry James, J.-K. Huysmans, Walter Pater, and Max Beerbohm.--
